Sunshine in my eyes… February 19, 2008

Our lil one has been going to the day care since she was 3 months old. The routine was her dad dropping her off and mom picking her up.What follows is her dad taking about the morning time he gets to spend with her.

My daughter’s early morning battle

Ever since my daughter turned 3 months old, I had been driving her to the daycare. First few days, the bumpy and swerving road and side-to-side motion really kept her asleep. I had a mirror setup so I could see her face on a rear facing car seat.

I noticed that sun’s early morning rays got to her eyes. Then her mom and I  bought her shades that can be stuck on the side windows. No matter, at what angle I put those things on, the rays always got to her eyes. I even tried the shades on all the windows.  Sometimes these shades will fall off.  This scenario went on for almost a year.

After she grew little bigger we got her a front facing car seat.  I realized that the rays were still bothering her. So we got her cool looking shades. Of course, she would keep on taking them off and putting them on through out the ride, completely defeating the purpose of the shades. To her the shades were a cool looking toy. I don’t know, those shades are probably in the house broken into pieces now.

I started to notice that she would dodge the rays as soon as they got to her eyes. Then to my surprise, as soon as the rays got to her eyes, she would close them little eyes. I was really taken aback. I said to myself, wow!! She has figured out how to battle the rays from getting into her eyes.  Nowadays, she looks away from the rays and uses the combination of dodging and closing her eyes. I help her too, by putting my arm up to block the rays. I also encourage her to close her eyes.

I am sure she has also realized that it’s not something papa is doing. I know for sure that she also knows that as long as we take that particular road to her daycare she is going to have to struggle with this. I am waiting for her to be old enough so she will realize that the sun is always going to be there for the rest of her life and to realize the importance of the sun’s existence in our lives
