Besides potty training we are trying to teach our little girl the joy of sharing. Her vocabulary is full of “My, my “ like any other kids of her age these day. While we know that this is just a “phase” of her growing up, we sometimes get restless to wait and see when she will grow out of this. But, today I was very happy to hear that our little bundle of joy spread the joy of sharing with her friends in her day care..She shared her candies with all her friends in her class. Usually, she used to shove the candies down her mouth as we approached the school but today she actually SHARED it with her friends!! It is indeed an elating feeling to hear about this and credit goes to “daddy D” as well for talking to her about sharing as they drove to the day care. Way to go dad and daughter team!!!
I totally relate to this sentiment! I have a five year old who still never spontaneously shares. I wonder what I did wrong that he doesn’t feel like sharing.
But then I realize that a lot goes into sharing and you really can’t control it. If you MAKE a kid share, it is kind of against the point, right?! I have one kid who never shares, another who shares ALL the time and I sometimes have to tell him not to!, another who is probably just right, and the youngest who just reflexively shares (i.e. she eats one bite, hands another towards you). I supposed I cannot be responsible for all four personality types!
For my child who over-shares, I realize that it is very much connected to his hypersensitive personality. He is sensitive physically, emotionally, and socially. Sometimes this is a handicap, especially since he is a boy, but the plus is that he is so gentle with his baby sister and so in tune with how others feel. He never hits, never yells, always wants to please, and is a sort of perfectionist. Also, he willingly shares =) My other two boys are more stereotypically boyish, more extraverted, less self aware, and more immune to others’ feelings, therefore leading to less sharing impulses.
So hang in there! Probably your little girl has mastered the virtue (sharing candy is HUGE!!) and it’s all progress from here =)
